eketahuna to cross creak 88 km
a late start to the day's ride - not thats it matters much as i will just keep on riding until its gets dark or i end up at one of a few places i have stayed at before the last time i was down this way- there is 2 free camp sites near featherston & at cross creek ( about 12 km out of featherston on the (old railway) cycle trail . the road climbs slowly up to Mt b - near the top there is a bride? place that i have stopped at before ( this time i just keep on riding passed ) from the top of the hill the road is a mix of down hill and flat bits . stoping in masterton for some food and water around 3 pm I decide to keep riding to it gets dark passing though a few small towns - as im leaving masteton I some how get a little lost : ) as i find south st./rd? will not take me south as its a dead end rd oops . at featherston i stop at a 2 th hand book shop and pick up 3 books to read - yes i still read paper books : ) heading out of town towards the start of the rail trail (about 10 km away) - theres not much wind today for a nice change as it can be very windy around here at times ) at the start of the rail trail (cross creek rd ) i head down a gravel road for about 1 km to the end of the road then onto a mt bike/ walking trail for 2 km to the site of cross creek (an old rail way ghost town ) where one can camp for the night setting up camp for the night
