Mangawhai heads to wood hill 100 km?
after leaving the place i stayed the night i head though the towns of mangawhai head and mangawhai village before riding over rolling hills - near the top i see some road bike riders of on a day ride heading the other way. a few km north of te hana the road im on ends at S.H.1. just after i turn on to S.H.1 i stop at an rest aire for some food then its back on the busy road for the 7 km? to wellsford . as im riding up the hill into wellsford i see there is 3 sign with the name of the town on a green one , one made from tin and an old one made of brink. once im in town i head for the library to look up the internet (as i had run out of internet on the phone) the library is a very green one with sower power panels on the roof and even some where to pug in a e car. after spending an hour or so in the library i head a long the busy road - deciding to walk the bike along the foot path as the road is very busy (taking 10-15 mins just to get across the road ) i get some food before heading out of town on S.H.16 with the road heading down hill then its time for the first big climb on this road - its climbs like this that i have very low gears on the bike. at the top of the hill i see a friend in a horse truck heading to a horse event so i spend a few min chatting before getting some photos of the land scape then its time for the down hill :) after the big hill the road rolls over some hills - there are signs on the top of some of the hills that say things like 11% (how steep the hills are ) part of the way up the 2 big climb on this road i run out of water. at the top of the hill i stop for a rest and end up chatting to a few people for about an hour before riding down the hill into the town of kaukapakapa where i get some water from a shop that just closing for the day . the road is a mix of a few hills and flats as it heads towards helenville where i make it in time to get some food before heading down the road to wood hill sands where i set up camp for the night - as im setting up the tent one of the tent poles break so after trying a few things i end up using a few drink cans to use as a splint so i can set up the tent to sleep in then its time for bed
