bar to greymouth
up first for the days hills is a nice little warm up hill that takes me into the town of Charleston on my last ride in this part of nz (2007) I stopped to look at some old gold mine tunnels so this time i just keep on riding passed town after Charleston its soon back into the hills with a 200 m climb down a bit then back up and down flatting out for a bit crossing the fox river (site of old ghost town and an old road bridge (standing next to the new road bridge) where I spend some time chatting to some people about the bridge they are trying to save. then back to riding as i head over perpendicular pt where the road climbs up high where there is a look out up and down the coast before descending to the town of punakiki (site of the pancake rocks and blowholes also as a place for exploring paparoa national park ) from punakiki its mostly rolling hills with some steeper then others as the road runs next to the coast. at rapahoe the road heads inland to greymouth. getting into town before the shops close is a nice change as i do some shopping - some more headphones and a new back tire to replace the one that failed a few days ago -can be hard to find 20 ‘ bike tires on the west coast . after heading for the info center i find out about places to stay and a cycle/walk way that runs beside the coast so i end up taking the trail to the camp ground where im going to spend the night. after setting up camp i find some where to charge up my phone/camera/gps tracker before chatting so some people at the camp about my bike ride and also about THINK (about head injury suff ) .
